Theatre

I love translating, writing, and directing theatre, and particularly the latter due to its unpredictability: you never know how your actors will surprise you and make you see a text you thought you knew inside out in new ways.

It has been increasingly hard to find the time, but back in 2017 I directed and produced a play about Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine's time together, entitled 'Arseholes'. (Because, let's face it, they were.) The cast featured undergraduate and graduate students from Oxford, as well as university lecturers (including a Rimbaud specialist in the role of the censorious Théodore de Banville!) I was blown away by the talent and sensitivity of my Rimbaud and Verlaine, who were only second year undergraduates.

Screenwriting

I have recently turned my attention to screenwriting and have been developing two tv series: a historical drama about the women of ancient Persia and a comedy-drama about the young Dante. Do get in touch if you are interested in learning more about them.

Cartoons

I always have a lurking taste for the silly and the eccentric side of great artists and historical figures. This led to frequent cartoons during the years I wrote my thesis on Dante and Proust.
